Did you know that a good night’s sleep can boost your immune system?

When you don’t get enough sleep, you’re more likely to become ill after being exposed to a virus. That’s because while you’re asleep, your immune system is hard at work, releasing proteins that you need in order to fight off an infection (or inflammation). If you’re sleep deprived, your body may produce less of these proteins.

Most adults need around 7-9 hours of sleep every night to stay healthy. A lack of sleep, or poor quality sleep, can have both short-term and long-term consequences on your health.

Short-term consequences include:

  • poor concentration
  • poor judgement
  • low mood
  • increased risk of being in a car accident

If you regularly suffer from poor sleep, long-term consequences include:

  • increased blood pressure
  • insulin resistance
  • weight gain
  • heart disease

Good sleep is essential for good health, and for strengthening the immune system. Banishing distractions from your bedroom is key when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep – whether that’s your phone, a pet, or a snoring partner.

If your partner is stopping you from getting the sleep you need, tackle the problem head-on. Encourage them to make some simple lifestyle changes; weight gain, alcohol and smoking can all affect snoring. Cutting down on alcohol and cigarettes can help reduce the noise, as well as eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly. If that doesn’t work, a snoring relief product might help. But remember – different products are suitable for different types of snoring. Click here to diagnose your snoring, and we’ll recommend the product that’s right for you.

By keeping your bedroom a quiet, snore-free environment, you can help boost the quality of both your sleep and your health.
